Interesting stuff courtesy of Phil Rosenthal. This chit-chat between Mike Wallace and Rod Serling aired in September 1959, just before the Twilight Zone made it’s debut. Since both shows were on CBS, I guess it’s good evidence that both corporate synergy and the publicity tour existed even when television was still relatively young.

Fri. Show Prep – Members Only Jacket Edition
- Police in New York are still trying to identify a skeleton found in 2004 that they believe has been laying hidden in the bushes next to a highway for over 20 years. How do they know it was there for 20 years? It was wearing a Members Only jacket. Really.
- Obama calls our troops a “good photo-op”. Discuss…
- A new poll suggests that Sarah Palin actually has a higher favorability rating than Nancy Pelosi. Unfortunately she also loses out to Hillary Clinton in the all important “Who would you rather have Thanksgiving dinner with?” race.
- You might want to make an appointment for that nose job right now. The Senate health care bill includes a 5 percent tax on elective cosmetic surgery. It’s called the “Michael Jackson tax”… what? Too soon?
- Comeback kid: Rudy Guiliani may be running for Hillary Clinton’s old Senate seat in 2010. And he would use that as a stepping stone to running for President again in 2012. Here’s hoping that his Senate campaign has better advisors than his Presidential campaign did. Question: Do you think it’s possible that Rudy actually threw the 2008 campaign, knowing that a Republican wouldn’t be able to win?
- Fort Hoot shooter Nidal Hasan may have had HIV.
- 52% of Republicans think ACORN stole the election for Obama. I have a feeling out listeners agree. Glenn Beck will undoubtedly devote an entire weeks worth of shows to this one.
- The RTA gave its approval to Gov. Quinn’s plan to borrow $166 million to avert a CTA fare increase. I know I feel better now.
- Having already ruined fast food, pop, and everything that makes life worth living, the Center for Science in the Public Interest wants you to know that movie popcorn is bad for you.
- End of the world update II: Yesterday we learned that the floods in Georgia have created a world wide Eggo waffle shortage. Now Nestle says that Thanksgiving 2009 could be plagued by a canned pumpkin pie shortage. I don’t know what to believe in anymore.
Thurs. Show Prep – Complaint Department Edition
- Missouri Congressman Emanuel Cleaver has found a solution to all of our problems: He’s proposing a resolution calling for people to stop complaining.
- Commentgate Update: Judge delays ID of ‘Hipcheck16′ for at least a month.
- President Obama is furious that people are leaking his plans for Afghanistan. He says its a fireable offense. Will he actually make a decision before he fires the leaker?
- Obama also says that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will be convicted. Obviously I would think we all hope that it’ll turn out that way, but… aren’t we moving KSM’s trial to the US because we want to show off how wonderful our judicial system is? Isn’t the whole basis of our legal system the idea that you are innocent until proven guilty? I’m just sayin’
- One of life’s most important questions: Should you suck up or not? Bosses claim that sucking up does nothing, but at the same time the numbers indicate that the Dwight Schrute’s of the world have a better chance of moving up the ladder.
- The war on obesity is going about as well as the war on poverty. A new study says that 40% of Americans may be obese by 2018.
- End of the world update: Remember those floods in Georgia right around the time I got out of town? They have created a world wide shortage of Eggo waffles. Leggo my Eggo.
- Bombshell study: According to a new study if you’re a woman trying to snag a man, the secret is to show exactly 40% of your skin. Not 39%, not 41%… 40%.
- Lawn nazis: One Florida town is looking to impose a $1000 per day fine for letting your lawn get overgrown.
- It’s not quite as entertaining as the guy who said he was too fat to shoot his son in law, but this unique defense might work: A British guy claims that he accidentally killed his wife while he was sleepwalking.
- More ice is falling from the sky, this time it’s in Colorado. Unlike the one here in the Chicago burbs though, they are pretty sure they know where it came from.
- Buffalo Grove boy dials 911 after his parents take away his Xbox 360. I can’t blame him, I once left my apartment completely unlocked all day and when I came home I literally thought to myself “oh well, if someone broke in the only thing I would really miss is my Xbox.”
