Geeky Space Picture Of the Day: Ares I-X Rollout

This is the rocket that will replace the Space Shuttle one day… well, more or less. This one will only fly for two minutes, and has a fake second stage, but it does look like the new rocket anyway. Basically NASA is launching this bad boy just to prove that a rocket this tall and skinny will fly the way they want it to. At 327 feet it’s nearly twice as tall as the Space Shuttle, and just 40 feet shorter than the massive Saturn V. It’s the first new rocket to roll out of the VAB in thirty years.
