Friday Show Prep - Verbal assault edition

  • FoxNews: The latest on the Christian Bale assault story is… well, it’s probably not really much of an assault. Now, they’re reporting that it was a “verbal assault,” that he yelled at his mother when she insulted his wife. Under British law, you can be held liable if you yell at someone and it puts them in fear of harm. But if she was insulting her son’s wife, you can understand his ire. You just don’t trash someone’s wife/husband, ESPECIALLY your child’s wife/husband.
  • Boston Herald: You may be wondering why I said “wife/husband” in the Christian Bale story, despite the fact that I was talking about a male and his wife in that particular instance. Well it’s because you just never know when the state of Massachusetts will accuse you of being sexist. First it was the “Men at work” signs here in Atlanta that were deemed sexist, now it’s spread to the fine state of Mass. Seriously, is that all we have to worry about?
  • ESPN: A couple of years ago Julio Franco was on a mission to become the first MLB player to be drawing a pension and a paycheck. He eventually gave up on the quest at age 49, but he may want to pick it up again. The Detroit Shock in the WNBA have signed Nancy Lieberman to a seven day contract. Nancy Lieberman is 50 years old. Come on Julio, it’s time for another comeback.
  • Politico: Barack Obama gave his speech in Berlin earlier today. Much like his speeches here in the States, he didn’t say much at all.  Some of the highlights? “Partnership and cooperation among nations is not a choice; it is the only way”… “The world should stand as one”… Stand as one… Wow. Why didn’t anyone else think of that?
  • MRC: One person who probably won’t be convinced by Obama’s speech in Germany? Howard Stern. The shock jock said today that the Democrats on the FCC are Communists and he won’t vote for a Democrat ever again. If you haven’t been paying attention… and if you’re not in the biz I don’t think you would be… the FCC is essentially blocking the merger of Sirius and XM unless they allow them oversight of what programming they put on the air.
