You wouldn’t like Bob Dole when he’s angry

Back in 1996, after the election Bob Dole made all sorts of appearances on TV, leading many people to say that if they had known he was that funny they may have voted for him (Gee, why didn’t people know he was funny??).

Dole picks his spots these days. I’d say it’s pretty safe to say that he’s more or less in retirement, but he did fire up his blackberry and send a rather stinging email to Scott McClellan, calling him among other thing a “miserable creature”:

“In my nearly 36 years of public service I’ve known of a few like you. No doubt you will “clean up” as the liberal anti-Bush press will promote your belated concerns with wild enthusiasm. When the money starts rolling in you should donate it to a worthy cause, something like, “Biting The Hand That Fed Me.” Another thought is to weasel your way back into the White House if a Democrat is elected. That would provide a good set up for a second book deal in a few years.”

Wow… who knew that Bob Dole was about as good at belittling people as Glenn Beck?

When Scott was press secretary I always thought he was weak and in way over his head. Now he is getting beat up by an octogenarian while they fawn over him on the Today Show. Just when you thought he could not get more ignominious.

There is little downside for Bob “Third-person” Dole. He can only go up. He might be a designated attack dog for the upcoming election.

But we love Glenn’s enthusiasm for life!
