Former Presidential candidate and fat man Mike Huckabee has been on a health kick for several years now. Despite claims of being a conservative, the Huckster isn’t above having the federal government compel you to live a healthy life. Now he’s comparing fat kids to the threat from Osama bin Laden:

An advocate for better health since his diabetes diagnosis five years ago, Mike Huckabee warned Wednesday that the illness may pose a greater threat than terrorism to the United States.

Nearly 59 million Americans are at risk for type 2 diabetes. The former Arkansas governor said the epidemic would be “the lead story” across the country if tens of millions were in danger of terrorist attacks.

“The greatest challenge to America may not be something from without, it may be something from within,” Huckabee said. “It’s our own unhealthy habits.”

I could make some statement about how wrong Huckabee is about the role of government, and that when he talks about obesity he sounds more like Hillary Clinton then Ronald Reagan… but heck, I don’t need to do that, Ed Morrissey at HotAir already took care of it.

There’s certainly no denying that diabetes is a serious problem that effects millions of Americans and people worldwide… but I’m more amused by the fact that Huckabee seems to be the fat guy equivalent of the former chain smoker… you all know the guy/gal. They smoked like a chimney for twenty years until they saw some PSA about what smoking does to your lungs and decided to quit, but that wasn’t good enough… now they are on a crusade to ban smoking altogether. There are plenty of people nationally who fit that bill, and it almost seems like there’s at least one lawmaker in each state as well. They ensure that a smoking ban of some kind pops up every year.

Huckabee on the other hand used to weigh a metric ton, and now that he’s seen the light he wants Krispy Kreme to be banned from the lower 48 states.
