Tonight is the long awaited Scrubs homage to The Princess Bride… it’s also their “series” finale. Because they are still acting like they aren’t coming back on ABC next year. For example, Zach Braff:

I’ve just been informed that I’m not allowed to talk about anything related to Scrubs and it’s current fate. What I can tell you is that we are currently shooting 18 episodes for the 8th season. I am not allowed to discuss where one might watch them. (More news to come.)

But I can tell you that the coolest episode we’ve ever done is going to air on May 8th at 8:30(E/P). I directed it and it’s a GIANT homage to “The Princess Bride”. Dr. Cox has to make up a fairy tale for his son and he does so using everything that happened in the hospital that day. It’s by far the most epic (and expensive) episode we’ve ever done. (Monsters, potions, evil wizards, giants, hunchbacks, gnomes – like “World of Warcraft”, but Scrubs…)

Even if this wasn’t the impromptu finale, it would still be an exciting event in Scrubs lore. The fact that they are being so coy about their triumphant return on ABC next season is about as befuddling as the fact that CBS still hasn’t renewed How I Met Your Mother. Anyway, the “fantasy” episodes on Scrubs are always amazingly funny (Think “Everything Comes Down to Poo), and this is the biggest one yet… the toughest part of the writers strike was having to wait even longer to see it.

Everyone knows they’ll be around next year. Heck, they had to talk around Sarah Chalke’s absence on How I Met Your Mother for three whole episodes because she was away filming Scrubs.

It seems like in the age of the internets, when everyone knows what John C. McGinley had for lunch yesterday (I heard it was tuna salad), they are still trying to make network up-fronts newsworthy.
