The Florida Marlins are looking for a few good… fat men:

The National League team is creating an all-male, plus-size cheerleading squad to be dubbed the Manatees. Tryouts were scheduled for Sunday.

The team hopes to recruit seven to 10 tubby men to dance, cheer and jiggle during Friday and Saturday home games this season.

The Marlins have had a hard time building a loyal fan base for two reasons: a) They’ve won two World Series and immediately dismantled both teams to save money. b) Miami tends to be a pretty rainy area, and it’s pretty difficult to get fans to come to games when odds are pretty good that there will be a rain delay.

I submit to you that a place with such a rainy climate is not where you want to have seven to ten fat guys running around in Marlin’s t-shirts and pom-pons…

Manatees is a pretty clever name though.
