Mon. Show Prep – Ratings War Edition

Media showdown of the century? Sarah Palin is going to guest-host The Today Show on Tuesday morning. This of course comes the same week Katie Couric is going to be filling in on GMA. If I’m Matt Lauer, the first thing I do is ask what Palin read to get ready for the hosting gig. Here’s one question though, how do you feel about Today turning to someone like Palin as opposed to a broadcast professional? They seem to be hiring only celebrities these days.

There were three winning tickets in the $640 million Mega Millions drawing on Friday. One of them was sold in Red Bud, IL, but unfortunately not to me. So I’ll be back at work on Monday. Reportedly over 100 million people bought losing tickets.

A 48 year old man in Kansas City was struck by lightning immediately after he bought 3 (losing) tickets. At that point he had to know that the odds were not in his favor.

Polls show Mitt Romney up by about 7 in Wisconsin ahead of the primary on Wednesday. Right now Santorum’s up big in Penn, but if Mitt wins in Wisconsin he’ll clearly have momentum and that could turn Penn against him too.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel had a little fun on April Fools Day. He filed a Freedom Of Information Act request to learn more about himself.

Riots broke out in Louisville after Kentucky’s win in the Final Four. Police had to break out the pepper spray, but fewer than 10 people were arrested though. I will absolutely never understand why someone would riot because their team wins (or loses for that matter).

Awkward Media Moment: Congresswoman Corrine Brown is upset that CNN asked her about a white girl who was murdered in her district and she couldn’t remember her name. She said the question was “bull****” and they are all “gotcha journalists” Sounds like someone was inspired by Rick Santorum.

Current TV has fired Keith Olbermann from breach of contract. Former NY Governor Eliot Spitzer has taken over the time slot. Olbermann says he’ll sue. At this point are there any networks leftover that Olbermann hasn’t torked off? Maybe he could go the internet TV route like Glenn Beck?

Jerry Lee Lewis has married for a seventh time. She’s the ex-wife 0f  Lewis’ second cousin. And Rusty Brown would be the brother of Myra Gale Brown, the minor-cousin-once-removed whom Lewis married in 1957. Bigger threat to traditional marriage: The Gays or Jerry Lee Lewis?

A new survey says that 55% of employees claim to be more productive when they work from home. 100% of bosses are skeptical. Clearly it’s time for Salem to think about building a studio at The ConPad.

Remember, you can catch the show […]
  • Keith & Katie – 10/31/12 – Death, Taxes and Waffle House
FEMA is again using the “Waffle House Index” to plan their disaster response in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. FEMA calls an area Waffle House, and if they are closed, then they know that that sector needs relief. If the Waffle House is open, you go down on the priority scale. This is actually a […]
  • Keith & Katie – 10/30/12 – Zombie Training
An untold number of “zombies” are coming to a counterterrorism summit attended by hundreds of Marines, Navy special ops, soldiers, police, firefighters and others to prepare them for their worst nightmares. It’s no joke, they will act out a very possible scenario with a wounded VIP… it’s just that because it’s Halloween and all, the security personnel […]
  • Keith & Katie – 10/29/12 – Creepy Campaigning
We’re really upping the creep-factor as the Presidential election heads into the home stretch. A new campaign ad features “future” kids singing about the post-apocalyptic waste land that the world “became” after Mitt Romney was elected, with the kids blaming their parents for voting for him. Which is creepier, “future children” singing about how awful their […]
